Artist of the Abstract

Have you all noticed an increasing amount of abstract art popping up on Pinterest and elsewhere? This type of artwork works so well in many types of interiors, here are some of my favorites lately…

Shots from a Florida Vacation

Hunting for Shells.. what could you do with these? cover a mirror? Cover a console with them? For now, I started my quest for the most colorful array with this pile I found on the beach..

I went to Florida to turn off my design mind for a bit. Who am I kidding!! I love it too much and this bench at a croquette court fit in so nicely with it’s surroundings. I took about 10 shots of this croquette court, I loved it’s perfect blades of green precisely mowed grass.

But mostly I relaxed with Peter awaking to this view and cherished the downtime where my only responsibility was getting to dinner on time.

For now, I will dream about ocean waves and Planter’s Punches and wait excitedly for our next lift off.

Going Green, using green in Interiors

Posted on March 30th, 2011, in Color, Decorating, Furnishings, Green, Inspiration, Interior Design

I love obscure colors. I love taking more traditional colors like marine blue or a soft grey and mixing it with a more nonconformist color.

Have you had a green apple lately? Then you know one of those colors I am talking about. It has a hint of yellow in it to give it that intensity. I always laugh when I think of this color because my mother really dislikes it. The (green) apple fell far from the tree on this one but that’s about the only way my Mom and I are different. When it’s added as an accent, it is unexpected and fresh. My Mom might even agree with me there.

See the acid green in the room scheme below? It is going on this chair in a client’s den.

I used it on a personal day, my wedding. Wallpaper panels were strewn throughout the tent. I wanted people to feel as though they were dining at the restaurant at Bergdorf’s where every wall is paneled in this. While selecting the colors that would be painted on the panels, the peony below was supposed to be robin’s egg blue. Nice, yes but I saw it needing a pop of green apple so the flower was changed to this…

Look at this trim. I have it tacked to my bulletin board in my office. Someday I will find a use for it.

I loved this bead trim I found at Zimman’s in Lynn Ma. It complemented the Grey Watkins floral well.

Here is the color palette for a new project coming up. This color palette is a huge love, see the apple green? It is going to mix well with any of these other colors, grey, taupe, and eggplant.

I love Ikat fabrics. Look at it in this moss green tone and ivory…

See how this color added in small doses can be a great addition?
